What do current and former pupils say about pupillage at 3 Serjeants' Inn?

James Berry, member of chambers and former pupil, said, "Pupillage at 3 Serjeants' Inn has been hard work but very enjoyable. Because the year is split into three equal segments you get a chance to experience each of the major specialist areas. The written work has been varied and interesting, covering the range of pleadings, rather than being limited to legal research tasks. There is a strong focus on court work, something that can be difficult to come by as a civil pupil, which is excellent preparation for life as a fully fledged barrister. Members of chambers are helpful and supportive and genuinely want to ensure that pupils give their best and succeed when it comes to tenancy decisions at the end of the year."

Leanne Woods, member of chambers and former pupil said, "During my pupillage at 3 Serjeants' Inn I experienced first-hand a wide range of work. The year is organised so that you can expect to spend time working with barristers specialising in each of chambers' major practice areas. In your second six there is a significant opportunity to get on your feet, which is good preparation for tenancy. 3 Serjeants' Inn is a very friendly place and pupils are treated as full members of chambers, so far as is possible during pupillage. The tenants and staff make every effort to make the year as comfortable and rewarding as possible."

Conrad Hallin, member of chambers and former pupil said, "As a pupil I had much exposure to court work and conferences but a significant amount of my time was spent doing paperwork (statements of case, advice and skeleton arguments). This gave me a chance to put into practice all I had learned, allowed me to work on something new regularly and gave chambers the chance to assess my progress. Throughout my pupillage here I was made to feel a full member of chambers by the tenants and support staff. One of the most daunting things about starting pupillage was finally making the transition from 'student' to 'barrister' and not knowing what to expect from it, or what would be expected from me. Pupillage at 3 Serjeants' Inn made this transition both rewarding and enjoyable."
