John Beggs QC and James Berry succeed in important police disciplinary Judicial Review

Judgment has been handed down in R (on the application of the Chief Constable of Dorset Police) v Police Appeals Tribunal & Mr Neil Salter.  This is understood to be the first successful challenge by a Chief Constable to the decision of a Police Appeals Tribunal. Burnett J gave important guidance on the correct approach to sanction in cases of operational dishonesty by police officers, including the appropriate weight to be given to personal mitigation and the difficulties a police force would face in re-deploying a dishonest officer.
