John Beggs QC, Gerry Boyle and James Berry succeed in Court of Appeal

John Beggs QC, Gerry Boyle and James Berry appeared in Court of Appeal in  the case of Ollivierre v Thames Valley Police & The Metropolitan Police. The appeal was from a decision of the Central London County Court in which John and Gerry successfully defended 3 claims for false imprisonment. The Court of Appeal (Pill, Arden and Toulson LJJ) considered the threshold for “reasonable grounds to suspect” an individual of the crime of assisting an offender and found for the Respondents. John Beggs QC and James Berry represented Thames Valley Police (instructed by Clyde & Co); Gerry Boyle represented the Metropolitan Police (instructed by the Metropolitan Police Directorate of Legal Services).
