Nature of Practice

 

Clinical Negligence: Tim's experience in clinical negligence work is extensive. He undertakes advice and litigation on behalf of claimants and National Health Service Litigation Authority and other defence organisations, in all areas of clinical negligence. His recent experience in high value claims relating to the following area of particular interest and expertise includes:

~Neonatal and perinatal injuries (in particular cerebral palsy, paraplegia and quadriplegia)

~Neurology

~Obstetrics, gynaecology and fetal medicine

~General surgery

~Orthopaedics

~General practice.

He also undertakes work in relation to anaesthetics, cosmetic surgery, vascular surgery, accident and emergency medicine and cardiology.

 

Disciplinary and Conduct Work: Tim represents doctors before the various committees of the General Medical Council on a wide range of disciplinary issues.

 

Personal Injury: Tim has extensive experience in the conduct of serious personal injury and fatal accidents cases, which he undertakes on behalf of both claimants and defendants. This area of practice covers claims both in the High Court and County Courts and in particular specialises in catastrophic injuries to the brain and spine.  He also has experience of conducting group actions in relation to personal injury actions and has extensive experience of conducting claims and appeals before the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority. 

 

Claims against the Ministry of Defence: Tim has a specialist practice in clinical negligence and personal injury actions against the Ministry of Defence in relation to death or serious injury suffered by members of the armed forces. He has conducted high value claims for the loss of service career and pension of members of the armed forces resulting from injury from members of the armed services serving soldiers in Iraq, the Falklands and Northern Ireland in addition to claims of serious injury on exercise in the UK and other parts of the world. He is a member of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers'  Military Injury Special Interest Group.

 

Coroners’ Courts: appears in coroners’ courts for claimants and defence organisations.

 

Free Representation Unit and Bar Pro-Bono Unit Practice: Tim has a long-standing commitment to representing claimants with meritorious cases, but no funding, on a pro-bono basis, through the Bar Pro Bono Unit and other referrals. He has done so in courts, tribunals (including, Coroners’ Courts the GMC and the CICA) over last 15 years and he is always happy for solicitors to discuss such cases either with himself or with his clerks.
