Susanna has a particular interest in public order law and is third author on Public Order: Law and Practice (Oxford University Press) (publication due January 2012), with John Beggs QC and George Thomas. She is well-versed in issues around protests and counter-protests, human rights, trespass on land, hate crime and more.
Civil applications brought on behalf of the police Susanna represents police forces around the UK in civil applications including Closure Orders, Anti Social Behaviour Orders (ASBOs), Sexual Offences Prevention Orders (SOPOs) and other applications including those relating to the proceeds of crime and cash forfeiture. She regularly appears in the Magistrates Court (civil jurisdiction) and advises on such applications.
Civil actions against the police Susanna has experience of claims against the police including those brought in negligence, bailment and under the Data Protection Act 1998, and particular experience of strike-out applications.
Disclosure applications Susanna has represented and advised in matters concerning the disclosure or withholding of information from criminal investigations into care proceedings.
Human Rights Susanna has an interest in matters that involve allegations of breaches under the Human Rights Act 1998.
Other police work Susanna accepts instructions across the spectrum of police matters, including inquests, licensing matters and requests for operational advice.
