Nature of Practice

 

Pravin developed a particular interest in public law work as a result of his previous experience in the public sector, which has included work in a Local Authority, a Mental Health Trust, a Primary Care Trust and for a Youth Offending Service.  He specifically has experience in the areas of social housing, social services care and patient confidentiality.

 

Information Law

Pravin is particularly interested in information law.  Due to his previous experience in the NHS he is particularly aware of the sensitivities surrounding patient information and specifically its disclosure to third parties.

 

Inquests and Inquiries

Pravin gained significant exposure to inquests during his pupillage including Article 2 inquests involving hospital trusts, the police and the prison service.

 

Human Rights

Pravin has a particular interest in the application of the Human Rights Act 1998 (HRA).  He recently contributed to an advice for a police force concerning Article 10, 11 and 17 ECHR and the Public Order Act 1986 in respect of the right to protest.  In the area of mental health he is particularly interested in the deprivation of liberty safeguards.

 

Judicial Review

Pravin has a developing interest in judicial review.

 

Mental Health/Bests Interests

Pravin has a specific interest in mental health and mental capacity law and has worked in an array of mental health settings.  He is particularly aware of procedure regarding inpatient challenges to detention and also possesses a practical understanding of community and inpatient care.  He worked in the NHS when the Mental Capacity Act 2005 (MCA) was being implemented and developed a good understanding of what the MCA required from healthcare professionals.  Pravin has a particular research interest in section 4 (Best Interests) MCA.  He has also delivered seminars to doctors on the MCA, including its development from the common law and its ethical foundations.

 

Police Law

Pravin is regularly instructed by police forces throughout the country on a variety of matters.
