Pravin has a particular interest in all areas of medical law and his previous experience provides him with a valuable practical understanding of this area.
Clinical Negligence
Prior to pupillage Pravin worked on the helpline at the charity Action against Medical Accidents (AvMA). As a consequence he developed first-hand experience of challenges arising in clinical negligence claims, including issues on funding and limitation. In addition, during his pupillage Pravin was exposed to the whole spectrum of clinical negligence cases from catastrophic birth injuries to those involving minor cosmetic scarring. He has most recently been instructed to provide written questions for an orthopaedic expert in a claim concerning a wrist injury.
Inquests and Inquiries
Pravin gained significant exposure to inquests during his pupillage, including Article 2 inquests involving hospital trusts, the police and the prison service.
Mental Health/Best Interests
Pravin has a specific interest in mental health and mental capacity law and has worked in an array of mental health settings. He is particularly aware of procedure regarding inpatient challenges to detention and also possesses a practical understanding of community and inpatient care. He worked in the NHS when the Mental Capacity Act 2005 (MCA) was being implemented and developed a good understanding of what the MCA required from healthcare professionals. Pravin has a particular research interest in section 4 (Best Interests) MCA. He has also delivered seminars to doctors on the MCA, including its development from the common law and its ethical foundations.
Professional Discipline
Pravin has a strong interest in disciplinary matters and has a good understanding of GMC and GDC procedure.
