Experienced in assisting clients with limited knowledge of the regulatory and legal systems both specifically as to the legal issues arising and generally as to case management (if required). Following work in the US and New Zealand as well as the UK, significant experience of advising clients in the context of commercial decision making. Advised and presented direct at Board level. |
Matsushita UK Ltd – Major Project - Preparation of full environmental audit manual for Matsushita UK covering entire range of environmental issues (setting up compliant systems, systems audit, incident control and reporting to deal with major incidents). Advising generally on issues of haz chem discharge.
EWS Railways (Britain’s largest rail operator) – advising and representing over three year period on variety of prosecutions including oil discharge into drainage culvert (Bescott); waste discharge into canal (W London); Ladbroke Grove Inquiry – see below Anglia Polytechnic University Representation at Chelmsford Crown Court in relation to asbestos affected works and disposal thereof.
Lecturing to solicitors on both environmental litigation and health and safety defences.

Ladbroke Grove & Clapham Junction Rail Inquiry (Lord Hutton) Lead Counsel for EWS in Part 2 of the Inquiry into Train Protection and Warning Systems. Three month Inquiry.
Swizzels Matlow Ltd – Successful defence in relation to prosecution for contravention of regulations governing contamination of food products.
Kerr Haslam Inquiry – Advising and representing class of litigants in Inquiry (9 months in total, concluded 2005) and thereafter claims against NHS for failure to implement appropriate standards of care in workplace. Magistrates Court Birmingham Successful defence of national building company following catastrophic injury at work resulting in quadriplegia. Bench persuaded to retain jurisdiction. Company acquitted of any wrong doing.
Du Pont Chemicals Ltd - HM Coroner for Birmingham Advising and representing Du Pont at Inquest and in Crown Court proceedings following death of employee from massive burns injuries sustained following flash fire. Advising also in personal injury claim brought subsequently.
HM Coroner for Eastbourne ep P: Successfully representing multinational client in elderly residential accommodation (34,000 residents in North America and England) following death of one resident from burns in unit. Detailed engineering issues arising relating to hot water system. Advice on instruction and dealing with appropriate Expert evidence and case management
Representation generally of Claimants in cases involving mesothelioma, asbestosis, vibration white finger, tinnitus, lifting injuries.
