Edward has considerable experience and a wide ranging interest in professional discipline and regulation. He has previously been instructed to advise and represent professionals before their regulatory bodies and also during appeals of disciplinary and regulatory decisions.
Healthcare Discipline
Edward has been involved in a number of professional discipline hearings before the General Medical Council, General Optical Council and the Nursing and Midwifery Council. Edward has provided advice on the conduct of GMC trials and on prospects of success. He also advises on issues arising out of proceedings, including in relation to likely sanction and appeals.
Police Discipline
Edward is regularly instructed to appear on behalf of the Presenting Officer at misconduct hearings under the Police (Conduct) Regulations 2008 and on appeal to the Police Appeal Tribunal. He has appeared as the presenting officer in police misconduct cases involving allegations of dishonesty and breach of confidentiality. Edward recently and successfully acted for a police force in a professional misconduct case which resulted in findings of gross-misconduct and immediate dismissal from the police force.
Independent Legal Advisor
Edward is often instructed to act as an independent legal advisor to panels. Edward recently acted as an independent legal advisor in a multi-officer police misconduct hearing under the Police (Conduct) Regulations 2008.
